Portuguese navy intercepts submarine carrying record cocaine shipment Photo
The Portuguese Navy, in coordination with the country’s police and Air Force, has successfully intercepted a submarine transporting a record quantity of cocaine, officials confirmed.
The operation, which lasted over 86 hours and involved more than 60 military personnel, led to the detention of a vessel carrying 300 bales of cocaine. The submarine’s crew consisted of four individuals from Latin America, Caliber.Az reports per Marinha.

The interception occurred on the high seas, approximately 426 kilometres from the Azores. Adverse weather and structural instability of the submarine prevented authorities from towing it, resulting in the vessel sinking.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the operation and the smuggling network are ongoing.
