Position of Zaporizhzhya NPP extremely vulnerable – IAEA
Zaporizhzhya NPP is on the front line, and in a situation where the Ukrainian troops are counterattacking, the plant's position is extremely vulnerable.
This opinion was expressed by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in an interview with the Japanese TV channel NHK.
"I visited Zaporizhzhya NPP three times. Now, in a situation when Ukrainian troops are conducting a counterattack, the plant is located on the front line and is in a highly vulnerable position. Our experts are working on-site, and the fact that the IAEA is permanently present there is important for the world community. Experts work there day and night. They can get information in real-time. There were some statements a few days ago, this day has already passed, but there was a statement that something terrible would happen on one particular day. We are used to it. IAEA experts are checking all the time. We have not found the explosives that were mentioned (in the statement), but we cannot relax. We know anything can happen at any time," Grossi said.
Rafael Grossi was in Japan on a visit in connection with plans to dump weakly radioactive water from the accidental Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the ocean.
