Powerful explosion rocks residential block in Bucharest, two dead, four injured
A powerful explosion struck a residential building in Sector 5 of Bucharest, Romania’s capital, causing significant damage but fortunately not followed by fire, said the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), which promptly activated the highest level of emergency response—the Red Intervention Plan.
“At this time, two deceased persons have been identified, and another four have been injured. Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” announced the Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISUBIF), Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Specialized resources designed for mass casualty incidents were dispatched to the scene, including containers equipped with tools to locate victims potentially trapped under rubble.
“According to initial information received, an explosion occurred in a residential block with a height of ground floor plus eight storeys (G+8), located on Calea Rahovei, Sector 5, Bucharest. The explosion affected several flats between the 1st and 5th floors. Search and rescue teams from the Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations have been deployed,” the source detailed.
Emergency responders continue their efforts to locate and assist any remaining residents in the damaged building as investigations into the cause of the explosion proceed.
