Media: Cyprus president to convey Iran's message to Israeli PM Netanyahu

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has confirmed that Iran asked Cyprus to act as a diplomatic intermediary by conveying a message to Israel. 

“Iran has asked us to convey a message to Israel,” Christodoulides stated, emphasising Cyprus’s growing role in regional diplomacy, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media outlet Mignews.

The president also affirmed Cyprus’ willingness to carry out the request, adding, “We will do so,” and noting that he is scheduled to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the matter. 

Christodoulides highlighted Cyprus’ commitment to open communication in a tense regional landscape, saying, “The role of the Republic of Cyprus in the region, I want to reiterate, as well as our characteristic, is that we will talk to everyone and to the best of our ability… we try to convey messages, to create the conditions so that this difficult state of affairs can be ended.”

On June 13, the military operation launched by Israel against key components of Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure has escalated to a much harsher level. The objective remains the complete elimination of the Islamic Republic’s capability to develop nuclear weapons.

According to the latest data, the Israeli Air Force has struck more than a hundred targets, deploying approximately 200 combat aircraft and over 330 precision-guided munitions, according to official figures. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) emphasises that this is a large-scale, coordinated operation targeting both military facilities and the nuclear programme infrastructure across the entire territory of Iran.
