President Trump appoints Musk, Ramaswamy to lead new department of government efficiency
Former US President Donald J. Trump announced that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead a new initiative aimed at cutting government waste and bureaucracy.
This newly created “Department of Government Efficiency,” or "DOGE," will work to streamline federal operations and slash excess regulations, Trump said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.

Trump revealed that Musk and Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead this department, working to “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (‘DOGE’),” Trump said. He expressed confidence in their ability to drive transformative change, calling their task “The Manhattan Project of our time.”
According to Trump, the objectives of DOGE align with longstanding Republican aspirations to create a leaner, more efficient government. “Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of ‘DOGE’ for a very long time,” he stated. DOGE will reportedly operate from outside the government to deliver advice and guidance, working alongside the White House and Office of Management & Budget on reform initiatives designed to boost efficiency while reducing the size and reach of federal agencies.
Elon Musk echoed the sentiment, noting that the proposed changes would “send shockwaves through the system” and target widespread “Government waste, which is a lot of people!”
Trump sees this new initiative as a major milestone for the “Save America” movement. “I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans,” he said.
The timeline for DOGE’s work is ambitious, with Musk and Ramaswamy expected to conclude their efforts by July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Trump referred to this deadline as a fitting symbol of freedom, envisioning “a smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy” as the ultimate gift to America.
The primary goals of DOGE will reportedly include identifying and eliminating waste across the federal budget, which Trump cited at approximately $6.5 trillion annually. The reforms aim to foster greater accountability to the public. “They will work together to liberate our Economy, and make the U.S. Government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE,’” Trump stated.
The initiative, if implemented, promises a sweeping restructuring of federal operations, with a focus on creating “an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.”
