Prince Harry and Meghan join Kevin Costner for fundraiser

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined Kevin Costner for the Hollywood star’s charity fundraiser for emergency service staff at his California home.

The couple were guests alongside friends Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres at the fundraiser, where “last chance” tables cost $12,000 (£9,804.72). 

The event, One805 Live!, was held at Costner’s Santa Barbara oceanside estate in Summerland, where guests also included the parents of singer Katy Perry.

The Duke wore a black jacket, shirt, and slacks, while the Duchess opted for a Carolina Herrera poncho.

The couple – who have just returned from the Invictus Games in Germany – chatted with Costner, his VIP guests, and senior police and firefighting service officials.

‘Worth every penny’

Speaking at the emergency responders fundraiser, Costner said: “Good afternoon everyone, I get asked a lot by my friends who have no manners ... ‘Kev, what’s this place cost, what’s it worth?’ 

“I can just simply tell you on a day like today, it’s worth every penny.

“We can celebrate people that you’d maybe never meet, the ones who are the first to rush in.

“It’s a place where I’ve had a lot of good luck in my life and I try to not put a wall around it.”

The Duke and Duchess were introduced as special guests, with Meghan presenting Costner with an honorary award.

Later in the evening, the Duke showed off his dance moves as the rock band Maroon 5 performed, while the Duchess mingled with other guests.

One805 described the event as taking place at Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s sprawling estate, despite their recent divorce.

Baumgartner, 49, a fashion designer and 68-year-old Costner’s second wife, had cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce filing on Monday, May 1 after 18 years of marriage.
