Productive US–Iran contacts underway, White House confirms
The United States and Iran are engaged in “productive” contacts, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a regular briefing with journalists.
Leavitt confirmed that the possibility of new negotiations with Iran is under consideration, though no final decisions have been made.
“I've also seen some reporting about the potentiality for in-person discussions. Again, those discussions are being had, but nothing is official until you hear it from us here at the White House. But, we feel good about the prospects of a deal,” she said.
According to Leavitt, a new round of talks will most likely take place again in Islamabad. She noted that Pakistan has proven to be an effective mediator and is currently playing that role.
The press secretary also denied media reports claiming that the United States had requested an extension of the ceasefire with Iran.
Leavitt stressed that it is in Tehran’s interest to agree to the demands of US President Donald Trump.
