Projectile strike damages tanker near Strait of Hormuz
A tanker was struck by a projectile of unknown origin off the coast of Oman, according to a report from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The incident occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, with UKMTO initially placing it 8 nautical miles northeast of Limah. In a subsequent advisory, the agency said it had received a report of an incident 19 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman.
“UKMTO has received a report of an incident 19NM east of Khasab, Oman. A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile causing minor structural damage to the port side. All crew are safe and accounted for; no environmental impact has been reported, and the vessel is continuing to its next port of call. Authorities are investigating,” the statement said.
There has been no indication of any environmental damage following the incident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the strike.
