Victory night for PSG ends in disaster as riots claim life, spark mass arrests UPDATED

France was hit by widespread unrest following Paris Saint-Germain’s victory over Arsenal in the Champions League final.

One person was killed in Paris, according to French media.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said 219 people were injured across the country, while the number of arrests reached 780. Looting was reported in 15 cities.

In the capital, rioters lit fires on roads, set cars and bicycles ablaze, and smashed shop windows. Police were attacked with fireworks and bottles. Seven officers were injured, one of them critically.

Police have detained 416 people following Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Champions League final, including 283 arrests in Paris, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said.

Supporters set cars, bicycles, and rubbish bins on fire, vandalised shop windows, and attacked police with fireworks and firecrackers. Rioting was recorded in 15 cities across the country, Caliber.Az reports per French media.

According to the Interior Minister, seven police officers were injured, one of them seriously. Earlier reports also mentioned injuries among fans, including one person who nearly drowned in the Seine and another who suffered a stab wound.

Paris Saint-Germain defeated London’s Arsenal to win the Champions League for the second consecutive year.
