“Put it down in writing”: Trump tightens stance on Iran nuclear issue
19 May 2026 08:42
US President Donald Trump has said he expects Iran to provide a written guarantee that it will abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons.
“We could leave right now and take them [Iran] 25 years to rebuild. And the last thing, I think, is nuclear. Now they have to put it down in writing,” he told reporters.
Trump also said he recently refrained from authorising strikes on Iran at the request of several Gulf leaders, noting that the plan had been postponed for “two to three days.”
He added that the US military remains fully prepared for what he described as a “full-scale offensive.”
