Putin calls Biden's pardon of son a "human decision"
Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the recent decision by US President Joe Biden to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, calling it a reflection of Biden's human side rather than his political one.
"He is a politician, and it's always important to understand what predominates within you – the politician or the human being," said the Russian leader, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
He noted that Biden had shown more of his human side. "I wouldn't condemn him for this," Putin added.
To recall, US President Joe Biden has granted a full pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, who was facing sentencing for two criminal cases. The President described Hunter as having been "singled out" and labelled the legal proceedings as "a miscarriage of justice."
Hunter Biden had pleaded guilty to tax offences in September and was convicted in June for being an illegal drug user in possession of a firearm, making him the first child of a sitting US president to be convicted of a crime.
Reacting to the pardon, President-elect Donald Trump criticized the decision, questioning whether it extended to those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, referring to the imprisonment of his supporters.
Despite previously ruling out the possibility, Biden reversed his stance, citing political interference in the justice process as the reason for his decision. He stated that the decision had been difficult, but felt it was necessary and that there was no point in delaying it further.
