Pyongyang broadens nuclear strike criteria under revised policy
10 May 2026 17:47
North Korea has declared the possibility of automatic use of nuclear weapons if the life of the country’s leader Kim Jong Un is threatened, Yonhap reports, citing South Korea’s National Intelligence Service.
According to the agency, related provisions have been added to the DPRK’s constitution. They allow for the automatic deployment of nuclear weapons if a threat is identified against the leadership or the system controlling nuclear forces.
The provisions also envisage an immediate response without additional authorization in the event of an attack by what Pyongyang calls “hostile forces.”
