Qatar urges Iran to halt attacks amid rising tensions
Qatar called on Iran to stop attacks on its territory, emphasising the need for collective de-escalation, following a recent missile threat in the Gulf country.
Majed Al Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters in Doha that coordination with Egypt and other Arab nations is part of broader Arab cooperation and should not be seen as under the Joint Arab Defence Agreement, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He stressed that while Qatar has distanced itself from Iran’s conflict, it reserves the right to respond to Iranian attacks if necessary.
Authorities began evacuating residents after a missile targeting a residential area was intercepted on March 14. Al Ansari noted that statements from Iranian media threatening economic and civilian sites are taken very seriously.
He added that no active mediation is currently underway between the United States and Iran, and called for all parties to work collectively to reduce tensions and allow wisdom to prevail.
