Radev-backed party storms ahead in Bulgarian election count

A party associated with former president Rumen Radev is leading Bulgaria’s snap parliamentary election, according to preliminary results released after 87.23% of ballots were counted.

The Central Election Commission said the “Progressive Bulgaria” alliance is ahead with 44.56% of the vote, putting it well clear of its rivals.

The result, if confirmed, would mark a significant political comeback for Radev, who has remained an influential figure in Bulgarian politics since leaving office.

Three other parties are expected to enter the new parliament:

• “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” with 13.45%
• GERB–SDS with 13.31%
• Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) with 6.08%
• “Revival” with 4.38%

Several smaller parties, including MECh, “Velichie”, “BSP – United Left” and “Radiance”, remain below the 4% threshold required to enter parliament.

Final results have yet to be announced.
