The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has confirmed that it has taken custody of two coffins containing the bodies of hostages who died in Gaza.
The coffins are en route to Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and Israeli Security Agency (ISA) personnel, Caliber.Az reports, citing IDF.
Officials say a further transfer of two additional coffins is expected to follow. Hamas is obligated under the agreement to ensure the return of all deceased hostages and to take the necessary measures to facilitate their handover.
Earlier, Hamas’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said it would hand over the bodies of four Israeli captives killed in its custody.
The group identified the deceased as Guy Iluz, Yossi Sharabi, Bipin Joshi and Daniel Perez, saying their remains would be transferred later in the day.
The announcement comes after Hamas released the last 20 surviving Israeli hostages from Gaza under a ceasefire agreement, but continues to hold the bodies of several others who died in captivity.
