Regional ICT experts gather in Jordan to shape agenda for world conference in Baku
A regional preparatory meeting for Arab states kicked off on February 3 in the Jordanian capital of Amman, aiming to lay the groundwork for the upcoming World Conference on Telecommunications Development, scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 17-28.
The meeting is part of the framework of the Regional Development Forum organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The gathering will run until February 5 and brings together key stakeholders from the ITU’s member countries in the Arab region.
The event serves as a crucial platform for specialists and experts to exchange insights and experiences on a variety of ICT topics. Discussions will cover the ongoing development of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in the region, the challenges faced by Arab states in this field, and how they can collaborate to address issues such as cybersecurity, digital inclusion, and infrastructure development.
Furthermore, participants will engage in deliberations on a wide array of technical and policy-related matters that are crucial to advancing ICT across the region, including the regulation and governance of emerging technologies, innovation, and the role of ICT in driving economic development.
The results of these regional meetings, including proposed solutions and strategies, will be summarized and presented to a broader working group focused on the development of the World Telecommunication Development Conference’s agenda. These outcomes will inform discussions and decisions at the global conference later this year.
Azerbaijan’s role as the host of the World Telecommunication Development Conference was officially confirmed during the annual session of the ITU Council in June 2024, held in Geneva.
The World Telecommunication Development Conference is one of the ITU’s most significant events, held once every four years. It provides a critical platform for world leaders, ICT experts, policy makers, and stakeholders to come together and discuss key issues related to the development of ICT infrastructure. Topics addressed at the conference typically include cybersecurity, digital inclusion, innovation, ICT regulation, statistics, and the formulation of strategies for the future of global ICT development.
