Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan seek to expand parliamentary cooperation PHOTO

Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are seeking to strengthen parliamentary cooperation as the two countries continue to deepen their broader strategic partnership.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Chairwoman of Uzbekistan's Senate Tanzila Narbayeva and Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev, who is concluding his diplomatic mission, according to a statement from the Uzbek Senate, Caliber.Az reports per local media. 

The two officials reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations, highlighting growing cooperation based on what they described as the principles of friendship, mutual trust and alliance.

According to the Senate, both sides said political dialogue has intensified in recent years, supported by the close relationship between the leaders of the two countries. They also noted progress in expanding trade, investment, regional cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian ties, alongside the strengthening of the bilateral legal framework.

Particular emphasis was placed on interparliamentary cooperation, with the two sides underscoring the role of their legislatures in supporting the implementation of agreements reached at the highest political level.

Narbayeva and Guliyev also stressed the importance of increasing cooperation between parliamentary committees and friendship groups, exchanging legislative and parliamentary oversight experience, and strengthening coordination within international parliamentary organisations.
