Azerbaijani delegation attends farewell ceremony of Iran's former leader VIDEO/UPDATED

An Azerbaijani delegation attended the farewell ceremony for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike, Iranian news agency Tasnim reports.

An Azerbaijani delegation has arrived in Tehran to attend the official farewell ceremonies for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.

The delegation was received by Iranian officials upon its arrival at Tehran's airport. It is led by Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and includes Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Jabbar Musayev, and other senior government officials, Caliber.Az reports per local media. 

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 during a joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Tehran. Several members of his close family were also killed in the attack. He was subsequently succeeded as Supreme Leader by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.

The official farewell ceremony for the late leader will be held at Tehran's Mosalla complex on July 4 and 5. Following the ceremonies in the Iranian capital, his body will be transferred to the holy city of Qom for additional commemorations.

In accordance with his final wishes, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be buried in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 9.
