Rescue operation underway in Caribbean Sea after vessel overturns

A rescue operation is underway in the Caribbean Sea after a vessel carrying approximately 60 people reportedly overturned, the US Coast Guard’s Southeast District said.

The incident occurred about 10 miles (16 kilometres) from Mona Island, Puerto Rico.

The US Coast Guard, the US Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations unit, and the Puerto Rico Police are among those involved in the operation.

According to rescuers, four of the approximately 60 people on board have been rescued so far.
