Reuters: Democrats prepare investigations into Trump-linked entities

Democrats in the US House of Representatives are developing a strategy to investigate companies and financial entities linked to President Donald Trump.

According to Reuters, citing sources, the party is opting for hearings, subpoenas and document requests rather than seeking immediate impeachment.

The sources said the approach reflects the experience of Trump’s first term, when he was impeached twice and acquitted by the Senate twice. “We're ​not going into this to impeach. The focus is on building ​a body of evidence through investigations that can hold Trump accountable,” a senior Democratic aide said.

Republicans currently control the House of Representatives, but polls project a Democratic victory in the November elections, the report said. If successful, Democrats would be able to issue subpoenas, demand documents and hold hearings.

Discussions have mentioned Apple, Alphabet, Palantir, Blackstone, BlackRock and companies owned by Elon Musk over their contracts and ties to the administration. Democrats also plan to examine Department of Homeland Security contracts, funding for the construction of a ballroom at the White House. Venture capital firm 1789 Capital, which is linked to Donald Trump Jr., will also come under scrutiny.

Democrats have already begun preparations, with party leaders sending letters to companies requesting documents and laying the groundwork for future investigations, the report added.
