Reuters: Samsung cuts more than 700 jobs in US

21 July 2026 05:36

Samsung Electronics America (SEA), the U.S. subsidiary of South Korea's Samsung, has cut 739 jobs at its office in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, Reuters reports.

The company said that most of the affected employees had been offered relocation. The layoffs were carried out as part of the relocation of SEA's headquarters to Texas.

At another company office in Plano, Texas, about 100 additional employees were laid off, according to the report.

The Englewood Cliffs office opened last autumn and was expected to employ around 1,200 people.

In April, it was reported that Samsung Electronics was considering a major restructuring of its operations in China, focusing on its most profitable and strategically important business segments. GizmoChina, citing industry sources, reported that the company planned to retain only two business lines in the country: smartphone manufacturing and memory semiconductor chip production. Its home appliances, consumer electronics, and display divisions, which have delivered weak performance, could be shut down or significantly downsized.
