Reza Pahlavi sets up committee for transitional justice in Iran
Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has announced the establishment of a Committee for the Development of Transitional Justice Norms in a post on his X account, per Caliber.Az.
Pahlavi writes that the committee will prepare provisions for a Truth Commission and a related court, aimed at ensuring justice for all those affected by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s repression over the past five decades.
The committee includes prominent Iranian experts from multiple generations: Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and lawyer; Iraj Mesdaghi, human rights activist and former political prisoner; Afshin Elian, legal scholar; and Leyla Bahmani, expert in international law.
Shirin Ebadi has been appointed as the committee’s chair, and the body will also receive advisory support from leading international legal experts.
Pahlavi emphasised that transitional justice is a core element of his vision for a free Iran. “The truth will be revealed. Justice will be served. Light will triumph over darkness,” he said.
