Road crash in Romania kills 7 PAOK FC fans PHOTO
As many as seven supporters of Greek football club PAOK have died in a devastating traffic accident in western Romania, authorities have confirmed.
The minivan carrying 10 passengers was travelling from Greece to France for Thursday’s Europa League match against Lyon when it collided head-on with a truck on the E70 highway between Caransebeș and Lugojel at around 1 p.m. local time on January 27, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Romanian authorities say the crash involved a truck, a tanker, a minivan, and another passenger vehicle. Dashcam footage shared by local media shows the minivan attempting to overtake another vehicle before the collision.
Three passengers remain in the hospital in serious condition. Emergency services were unable to deploy helicopters due to adverse weather, but firefighters and first aid units quickly arrived at the scene. Romanian investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash.
Greek embassy officials are travelling to the site, approximately seven hours from Bucharest, to assist the victims and their families.
