Rock band Metallica raised a million dollars to help Ukrainians

04 June 2022 09:51

American rock band Metallica has raised a million dollars for World Central Kitchen and their initiative to give away free lunches and food kits to people who fled Ukraine due to the Russian attack.

This is stated in the group's press release, UNIAN reports.

“It has been just over three months since the WCK first began supporting people displaced inside and outside of Ukraine by distributing meals and food packages to families across the region. We are so grateful to the incredible Metallica family for supporting our efforts. Their essence and work is only possible with friends like Metallica. We still have a lot to do - the destruction is huge - but the WCK will continue to work for those who need us,” said Nate Mook, CEO of World Central Kitchen.

“This war with Ukraine has left us feeling helpless and devastated by people leaving their homes. By watching the work of the WCK in Eastern Europe, we can see the impact of our gift. WCK has been able to cook over 31 million meals in more than 230 cities thanks to 4,300 employees who prepare meals in restaurants, store supplies in warehouses, deliver food, drive trucks and work tirelessly to feed neighbours in need, even when they themselves are under attack. Their logistical delivery network includes vans, trucks, trains and warehouses across the country, delivering more than 8 million pounds of food to families, sometimes in areas completely cut off due to fighting and proximity to the Russian border".

Recall that Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher raised $20 million for Ukrainians.
