Romania announces readiness to play key role in Ukraine’s restoration

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has said that Romania can play a key role in the restoration of Ukraine after the end of hostilities.

Ciolacu met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on December 4. The negotiations were held as part of Ciolacu’s working visit to the US, according to the official website of the country's government.

During the negotiations, Ciolacu raised the issue of ending the conflict and stressed that Romania could play a major role in Ukraine’s restoration. Bucharest has enough advantages to participate in the relevant work.

“Ciolacu said that Romania can play a key role with such main advantages as security, [geographical] proximity, sea, river, rail and vehicle routes - opportunities that may be of interest to the US companies that will want to restore Ukraine,” the statement says.

The prime minister also added that Bucharest seeks to reveal the best ways to develop bilateral cooperation with Washington and implement joint initiatives. In turn, Blinken expressed gratitude to the Romanian politician for Kyiv’s support and interaction with interested countries in the export of grain through the Black Sea.
