Romania examines suspected drone wreckage found in Brăila County

Romanian authorities are examining the wreckage of an object, likely a drone, after debris was found on farmland in Brăila County on the morning of Tuesday, September 29, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence said.

According to the ministry, the debris fell onto farmland on Mare Brăila Island in Brăila County.

Authorities were alerted to the incident during the night after a member of the public reported that a fire had broken out following the fall of the debris. The fire extinguished itself and caused no casualties or material damage.

Units from Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Romanian Intelligence Service arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. The authorities will now examine the debris that was found.

The incident occurred on the same day that Romania scrambled two F-18 fighter jets after military radar detected an aerial target near the country’s airspace during the night of September 29.

The aerial target was detected north of the Romanian town of Isaccea in Tulcea County.

Following the detection, two F-18 fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the situation, while an air raid alert was issued in northern Tulcea County at 01:51.

The alert was lifted at 02:10. No reports were received of any intrusion into Romanian airspace.
