Romania keen to supply Moldova with electricity, gas in full
Romanian Energy Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu has expressed his country's intention to supply Moldova with electric energy and natural gas "in full".
"Regarding natural gas, we have the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline. Last week, we in the government approved a memorandum on strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Moldova in the field of energy," the minister said, TASS reports.
He noted that ways to increase the capacity of the gas pipeline are being explored now.
According to the minister, the Suceava-Belci project, a 400 kV power transmission line that will directly connect Romania and Moldova, is also being successfully developed.
"Nuclearelectrica and Energocom have already signed a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) type contract in the context of the development of the third and fourth units of the Romanian Cernavoda NPP. Practically, we want to supply Moldova entirely with electricity and natural gas from Romania", Popescu specified.
