Romania launches F-16s as Russian drones hit areas near frontier

Romania’s Ministry of National Defence has stated that the military deployed F-16 fighter jets on the morning of April 15 in response to a Russian drone attack on Ukrainian territory near the Romanian border.

Russian drones struck civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine in the area of the river border with Romania, in Tulcea County, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.

Two F-16 fighter jets were launched from the Fetești airbase to monitor the situation.

At the same time, Romanian military forces deployed air defence systems.

The ministry reported that over several hours, additional groups of drones were detected moving toward Izmail in Ukraine’s Odesa region.

However, no violations of Romanian airspace were recorded.

The defence ministry stated that security forces continue monitoring the situation and are taking measures to ensure the protection of the national territory.
