Romania lunches inquiry into “fundraising for killing president” post
Police in Romania’s Timiș County have opened an investigation after a social media post surfaced in which a man claimed he was raising funds for the assassination of President Nicușor Dan, according to Romanian media.
The post reportedly included a message stating that “every leu counts,” while comments beneath it showed users asking where they could send money.
In a statement, law enforcement authorities said: “Considering the images that appeared in the public space on a social network, where a young man published a post stating that he is organizing fundraising for the assassination of a state official, we inform that the police of Timiș County have initiated an investigation on their own initiative and are conducting checks to establish the factual circumstances and to take the necessary legal measures.”
Authorities are currently working to verify the authenticity of the account and identify the individual behind the post. The investigation aims to determine whether the incident poses a genuine threat and to ensure that the person responsible is held accountable under the law.
