Romania's presidential hopeful urges Trump to reject rigged election results
The S.O.S.Romania party chairwoman, a far-right politician, Diana Șoșoacă called for US President Donald Trump not to recognise the results of the upcoming Romanian presidential election due to violations of “elementary democratic rules”.
“The repeated rejection of my candidacy in the Romanian presidential election shows that the democratic system has been destroyed and the elections have already been rigged. These elections cannot be recognised by the US,” she wrote in a public letter posted online and addressed to Donald Trump after the bureau’s decision, Caliber.Az reports foreign media sources.
The politician said her non-admission has no legal grounds and is a violation of the Romanian Constitution.
Șoșoacă said that European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, who is “directly involved in electoral fraud in Romania” because of her desire to maintain control over the country, was involved in the banning of her candidacy.
The outspoken politician, who filed her candidacy earlier this week while wearing boxing gloves, has become a symbol of defiance against what she calls the "system," echoing populist rhetoric popularized by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
