Romania temporarily restricts partial airspace following detection of reconnaissance planes
Romanian air traffic controllers have restricted flights over the western coast of the Black Sea until April 30 shortly after a British reconnaissance aircraft was spotted in the region on April 11.
This information was published by Russian media outlets citing the Romanian flight information dispatcher service for the Bucharest region, which oversees the country's airspace.
"From April 1 to April 30, flights of aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles in this area are restricted, except for state and special aviation, humanitarian flights, search and rescue operations, and emergency situations," the source said, noting that several such restricted zones are currently active, with two being located right next to the borders with Ukraine and Moldova.
According to Russian outlets, there have been recent reports indicating that a British reconnaissance plane, accompanied by two fighter jets, was flying over the western part of the Black Sea. According to data from the flight tracking service Flightradar, a Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint plane took off from the UK's RAF Waddington airfield and then, escorted by two Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 jets, conducted manoeuvres near the Romanian coast and over international waters in the Black Sea.
The article recalls that a similar reconnaissance mission by the British group took place on March 31 2025.
