Romanian military destroys Ukrainian marine drone in Black Sea
Romanian Navy combat divers specialising in the detection and neutralisation of explosive devices have carried out an operation to destroy a dangerous object that posed a threat to navigation in the Black Sea.
The Romanian Ministry of Defence announced that a team from the Navy’s 39th Diving Centre, supported by the Coast Guard maritime surveillance vessel MAI 1107, deployed to a maritime area approximately 36 nautical miles east of Constanța, Caliber.Az reports.
“The military identified the drifting object as a Sea Baby–type unmanned surface vessel,” the statement said.
After receiving permission to neutralise the object in accordance with operational procedures, explosive ordnance disposal specialists conducted a controlled detonation.
The ministry also noted that drifting sea mines continue to pose a serious risk to maritime safety. Over the past nearly four years, around 150 mines have been neutralised in the Black Sea, seven of them by the Romanian Navy.
