Romanian president: Russia shows complete disregard for international law
Romanian President Nicuşor Dan held a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte following a drone incident in Galați.
According to Digi24, he described the incident as “the most serious security event on Romanian territory since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine.”
The Romanian president said he firmly condemned the “unacceptable violation of Romania’s sovereignty” and stressed that “full responsibility lies with the Russian Federation.”
“Russia’s behaviour demonstrates complete disregard for international law and the security of citizens of a NATO member state,” Nicuşor Dan stated.
The president noted that the two sides agreed to continue close coordination within NATO to strengthen Romania’s defence and the alliance’s eastern flank, including air defence and counter-drone capabilities.
Mark Rutte, in turn, expressed “NATO’s full solidarity with Romania” and stressed that the alliance is “ready to defend every inch of allied territory.”
The NATO Secretary General also expressed sympathy for those affected and said that “Russia’s reckless behaviour poses a threat to all.”
According to Rutte, the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine “are not limited to the border,” and NATO will continue to strengthen its defensive capabilities and support for Kyiv.
