Rosatom discusses Paks II NPP project with Hungarian FM

Alexei Likhachev, chief of Russia's atomic energy corporation Rosatom, has met with Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto in Moscow, Rosatom has said on Telegram.

"The parties discussed further steps to implement the Paks-II construction project, as well as other aspects of comprehensive cooperation in the nuclear power sector," Interfax reports, citing Likhachev.

Preparatory work is currently underway at the site of the future nuclear power plant "to install auxiliary buildings and facilities," Rosatom said.

The company is also continuing the process of obtaining licenses to perform some specific operations. As reported earlier, the principal license was issued last summer.

Szijjarto said earlier on his social media account that he would also meet Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. The parties will discuss the TurkStream gas pipeline's security, through which Hungary receives gas from Russia, the servicing of Russia's transit shipments of oil to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline, and steps to avert the European Union's possible sanctions on the Russian nuclear power industry.
