Rubio says some countries ready to join potential war against Iran
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that several countries have expressed readiness to join potential military action against Iran if conflict in the region escalates again.
At a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Helsingborg, Sweden, Rubio said there must be a Plan B in case Iran refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Then someone will have to go there and deal with it. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t do it. The United States could do it, but some countries have expressed interest in potentially participating in something like this if it actually comes to that,” Rubio noted.
Rubio made it clear that the US doesn’t need their help, but they are willing to do it.
“I think we should accept their offer if they are ready,” he added.
According to him, there were no firm commitments or formal requests today, as such steps would be premature.
“[…] but I simply raised the issue that this is something we may have to face at some point. Again, this is if we cannot reach an agreement [with Iran], but we would prefer to reach an agreement,” Rubio concluded.
