Rubio says Trump–Putin Alaska talks ended without Ukraine agreement

25 June 2026 17:38

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump failed to reach any final agreements on a Ukraine settlement during their meeting in Anchorage, according to a foreign defence media platform.

“There was no agreement in Alaska. There was a proposal in Alaska, but there was no agreement in Alaska. If there had been an agreement, we would have had an end to the war,” Rubio told journalists in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, during a state visit.

“I mean, Russia wants the entirety of Donetsk to be turned over to them, among some other things,” Rubio also said.

He expressed confidence that Washington “will have a role to play in bringing the sides together” and bringing an end to the crisis.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that during the Russia–US summit in Alaska, an agreement had been reached on how to end hostilities in Ukraine and move to negotiations.

“Now we are being told: listen, it is not working yet — let’s make some further concessions. We did not concede anything there — we simply agreed on how to end hostilities and move on to addressing all other issues at the negotiating table,” the minister explained.
