Rubio to lead 100-plus US companies to Uzbekistan in October

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead a delegation representing more than 100 American companies to Samarkand in mid-October, Uzbekistan’s Gazeta.uz reported, citing US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor.

During the visit, Rubio will take part in a C5+1 meeting with the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

According to Gor, the talks will focus on strengthening regional economic ties, enhancing energy security and developing joint responses to pressing regional issues.

Rubio is also expected to hold meetings with Uzbekistan’s leadership and representatives of other Central Asian countries to discuss expanding trade, attracting private investment and supporting the region’s economic modernisation.

The C5+1 is a dialogue format bringing together the five Central Asian countries and the United States. The October meeting in Samarkand is expected to cover regional security, while representatives of more than 100 US companies will take part in a major business mission.
