Rubio: US sees opportunity for roadmap to renewed Russia-Ukraine talks
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the US could help lay the groundwork for renewed negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the coming weeks.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to Colombia, Rubio said recent discussions involving US presidential special envoys in Moscow and Kyiv had been substantive, with new ideas discussed, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“I think there's an opportunity over the next few weeks to develop a roadmap moving forward to restart talks and maybe reach a conclusion there that's acceptable to both sides,” he said.
Rubio said there had not yet been significant progress towards reaching compromises between Russia and Ukraine.
He expressed hope that the recent meetings could help pave the way for the resumption of negotiations between the two sides with US mediation.
