Rubio: War in Iran will end within weeks, not months
Speaking after the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in France, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the operation targeting Iran is expected to conclude within weeks rather than months.
“We have objectives and we are very confident we are on the verge of achieving them,” Rubio told reporters.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Rubio noted that Iran might consider setting up a tolling system, but emphasised that any permanent toll on the strategic waterway would be “unacceptable.”
When asked about Iran’s ties with Russia, he stated that there is nothing Russia is doing for Iran that is impeding or affecting U.S. military operations in the country.
Regarding the possibility of a U.S. ground invasion, Rubio said: “We can achieve all of our objectives without ground troops. But we are always going to be prepared to give the president maximum optionality and maximum opportunity to adjust to contingencies, should they emerge.”
