Russia approves draft agreement with Azerbaijan on plant protection
The Russian government has approved a draft agreement with Azerbaijan concerning cooperation in quarantine and plant protection.
The document has been published on the Russian government’s website, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
According to the document, the draft Agreement on Cooperation in Quarantine and Plant Protection between the Governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as presented by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, coordinated with the Russian Foreign Ministry, and preliminarily discussed with the Azerbaijani side should be approved.
Additionally, the directive assigns Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) the task of negotiating with the Azerbaijani side with the involvement of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Upon reaching an agreement, Rosselkhoznadzor is to sign the accord on behalf of the Russian government.
The agreement focuses on collaboration between the two countries in quarantine and plant protection. It aims to develop measures to enhance phytosanitary safety, protect against the introduction of quarantine pests, and remove barriers to international trade in quarantined products.
