OTS security council secretaries meet in Baku to discuss regional threats UPDATED

17 September 2026 16:34

Senior security officials from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) member and observer countries met in Baku on September 17 to discuss regional security challenges, artificial intelligence and cooperation among Turkic states.

The fifth meeting of the Secretaries of the OTS Security Councils was chaired by Colonel General Ramil Usubov, Secretary of Azerbaijan’s Security Council, at the Heydar Aliyev Centre, Caliber.Az reports per Azertag.

Usubov opened the meeting by delivering an address from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the participants.

In his address, President Aliyev highlighted the growing international role and potential of the OTS and outlined achievements made during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the organisation.

He stressed that the historic Victory had created a new geopolitical reality in the region and paved the way for the Zangezur Corridor, which will strengthen economic, logistical, and strategic ties among the countries.

Representatives from Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the OTS Secretariat attended the meeting.

Usubov presented a report on the issues on the agenda, saying annual meetings of the security council secretaries provide a platform for addressing contemporary challenges, developing joint responses to common threats and strengthening security cooperation.

The delegations discussed regional security developments, including the situation in the Middle East, as well as opportunities for national development in artificial intelligence.

They also exchanged views on implementing security-related tasks stemming from agreements reached by OTS heads of state and provisions of the Gabala Declaration, signed on October 7, 2025.
