On the night of August 28, Russia carried out a massive combined strike on Kyiv, launching a wave of missiles and drones that caused widespread destruction across the capital.

Damage has been reported at more than 20 locations, with children among the victims, per Caliber.Az.

According to preliminary data, about 100 sites were damaged during the attack. Emergency aircraft were called in to assist with response operations.

The Darnytskyi district was among the hardest hit, where a high-rise residential building was destroyed, and debris removal efforts are still underway. In central Kyiv, a shopping centre sustained significant damage.

The air raid alert in Kyiv lasted for over eight hours. The assault began in the evening with waves of drones, including Iranian-made Shahed drones, launched at the city. Later, radar detected the takeoff of a Russian Tu-95 bomber, signalling the next phase of the strike.

At around 3 a.m., ballistic missiles targeted the capital, followed by MiG-31 aircraft launching Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. In the early morning, the barrage intensified as cruise missiles struck the city simultaneously with continuing drone attacks.

“Combined strikes from different directions. And systematically — targeting ordinary residential buildings. Tonight, these are decoys, ‘gerberas,’ Shaheds, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and Kinzhal missiles,” said Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

By morning, officials confirmed that eight people were initially reported dead in Kyiv, including two children, and more than 30 were injured, among them five children aged 7 to 17, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.

The attack also affected areas beyond Kyiv. Railway infrastructure in the Vinnytsia region sustained damage, and explosions were reported in Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian Railways confirmed that its Intercity train fleet was also targeted during the overnight strikes.
