The Russian troops launched a missile attack on Odesa on July 23. As a result of the shelling, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral was destroyed.
RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
The Russian missile hit the central altar directly, as a result of which the cathedral building was partially demolished, the roof of the three lower floors was partially ruined, the interior decoration and icons were significantly damaged, and the service rooms of the lower part of the cathedral were completely razed to the ground, the report added.
Immediately after the strike, a fire started, which the rescuers quickly localized and extinguished. Employees of the State Emergency Service and public utilities are working on the venue for rescue work.
On July 23, the Russian Armed Forces carried out another combined attack on Odesa and the region at night using cruise missiles of the Onyx, Kh-22, and Caliber types. As a result of the shelling, civilian facilities, and residential buildings were destroyed.
