Russia’s Chechen Republic declares day of mourning for victims of Baku-Grozny plane crash
On December 28, a day of mourning was announced in Russia’s Chechen Republic in connection with the crash of the Baku-Grozny flight.
"I express my condolences to the families and relatives of the victims in connection with the crash of Embraer 190 aircraft which was en route from Baku to Grozny on December 25, 2024, near Aktau, Kazakhstan. I hereby decree: December 28, 2024, will be a day of mourning in the Chechen Republic," according to a decree by Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, Caliber.Az reports via Chechen media.
On the day of mourning, the state flags of the Russian Federation and the Chechen Republic will be flown at half-mast across the region. Moreover, cultural organisations, TV and radio companies are encouraged to cancel entertainment events and broadcasts on the day of mourning.
The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, tragically crashed near Aktau. The plane was carrying 67 people, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Sadly, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, with 29 survivors.
