Magnitude 5 earthquake strikes southern Türkiye

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck southern Türkiye early this morning, with tremors felt across several neighboring provinces, according to the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

The earthquake occurred at 4:02 a.m. local time in the Saimbeyli district of Adana Province, AFAD said. Tremors were also felt in the provinces of Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye, Kayseri and Gaziantep, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media. 

No casualties, damage or other adverse effects had been reported in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake.

“Following the magnitude 5 earthquake that occurred at 4:02 a.m. in the Saimbeyli district of Adana Province and was felt in the provinces of Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye, Kayseri, and Gaziantep, no adverse effects have been reported so far,” AFAD said in a statement. “Surveys of the area are ongoing.”

The Adana Provincial Administration also said emergency services had not received any reports of damage linked to the earthquake.

AFAD specialists and other relevant agencies are continuing to inspect the affected area, while authorities monitor the situation for any further developments.
