Russia's Dozhd TV channel's editorial office transferred to Amsterdam

The editorial centre of the Russian TV channel "Dozhd" (Rain) has been transferred from Latvia to Amsterdam, Gazeta.ru informs, citing the TV's Telegram channel.

It is specified that the channel received a European license for broadcasting for a period of five years from a media regulator in the Netherlands.

According to the report, Dozhd can now return to cable networks, from which the TV channel was disconnected after the license was revoked in Latvia.

It is specified that Dozhd's Amsterdam studio will become the main one, but at the same time, the channel intends to keep "the bureau and part of the staff in Riga."

On December 6, 2022, the Latvian National Electronic Media Council decided to revoke the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel “due to a threat to national security and public order”.

On January 6, 2023, it became known that the leaders of the Dozhd TV channel plan to appeal against the decision of the Latvian regulator to revoke its license to broadcast in the country.

On January 10, the Dutch media regulator Commissariaat voor de Media announced that the channel had been granted a license to broadcast in the Netherlands.
