Russian army to receive S-500 systems for first time
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has said that the Russian Armed Forces (AF) would for the first time receive S-500 air defence systems in 2024.
The matter concerns the S-500s in two modifications - long-range anti-aircraft missile systems and missile defence systems, according to TASS.
In addition, the Russian army will receive S-400, S-300V4, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2U air defence systems, as well as a new-generation radar station (radar) within the specified timeframe.
The S-500 multifunctional complex is synchronously capable of engaging up to twenty targets and is capable of simultaneously firing at up to forty, using its own guidance system and external target designation. The complex intercepts a wide variety of objects travelling at speeds of more than 7 km/sec. At a distance of up to 600 kilometres, the C-500 system can simultaneously hit up to ten objects. It can intercept any flying objects at a distance of up to 3,500 kilometres and at a maximum altitude of up to 50 kilometres.
