Russian doctors serve 850 quake victims in Türkiye
A team of 11 doctors from leading federal clinics of Russia was sent to Türkiye upon the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, which during a week of their stay there, helped almost 850 quake victims, including children," said Russia's Health Minister Vladimir Kuznetsov.
He noted that a group of traumatologists, neurosurgeons, surgeons, pediatric surgeons, and anesthesiologists-resuscitators worked in a field hospital together with doctors from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, providing specialized assistance to the victims around the clock, Interfax writes.
“The hospital was located on a safe site. Mostly, we received patients in a state of moderate severity for the diagnosis of injuries and the treatment of emergency conditions, ”said the neurosurgeon of the National Medical Research Center of the Russian Health Ministry Yaroslav Latyshev.
The ministry also reported that Russian doctors provided first aid to a man who had been under the rubble for almost seven days. He was discovered by rescuers of the Emergencies Ministry of Russia together with foreign colleagues. After providing medical assistance, the patient was transferred to continue treatment at a local medical facility.
Currently, the Russian doctors have completed their participation in the humanitarian mission and are returning home, the report says.
Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 struck Türkiye on the night of February 6, followed by a series of aftershocks.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on February 14 that the number of people killed in devastating quakes is 35,418.
