Russian drone attack ignites regionwide fires in Ukraine’s Odesa Five injured
Large-scale fires broke out in Ukraine’s Odesa region following Russian drone strikes overnight on October 9, according to statements by Ukraine's State Emergency Service, and Odesa's Governor Oleh Kiper.
According to Kiper, Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on the Odesa region last night. Most of the targets were destroyed by air defence units; however, there was damage to civilian, port, and energy infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“As a result of the attack, fires broke out in two private houses, an administrative building, a gas station, and on the port territory. Four more private houses were damaged. Containers with vegetable oil and wooden pellets caught fire at the port,” the governor said.
Preliminary reports indicate that five people were injured and are receiving necessary medical assistance.
Due to the attack, more than 30,000 customers were left without electricity.
The SES said 83 rescuers took part in extinguishing the fires, using 18 fire engines, a firefighting robot, as well as 4 volunteers and 1 additional fire vehicle.
