Russian drone briefly crosses into Romanian airspace, defence ministry says
A drone entered Romanian airspace during a large-scale Russian strike on Ukraine overnight, Romania’s Ministry of Defence said on April 17.
According to the ministry, radar systems detected two aerial targets near the border area. One of them crossed into Romanian airspace before contact was lost.
The unmanned aerial vehicle was tracked until approximately 16 kilometres southeast of the village of Chilia Veche in Tulcea County, over an uninhabited area. The signal was later lost.
Romanian military authorities said a search operation is planned for the morning to locate possible debris from the drone.
The Ministry of Defence condemned the incident, stating that Russia’s actions pose a threat to regional security and constitute a violation of international law.
